Skinny Pumpkin Spice Hot Chocolate Recipe

Equipment

  • Blender (only if using real pumpkin)
  • Small saucepan

Ingredients

  • 2 Tbsp. Pumpkin purée (or backed pumpkin) (roughly 50 gr.)
  • 2 Cups Milk of choice (I use low fat dairy)
  • 2 Tbsp. Xylitol (or sweetener of choice: the equivalent of 2 Tbsp. sugar)
  • 2 tsp. Unsweetened Cacao Powder
  • ½ teaspoon Pumpkin Pie Spice
  • ½ oz. Dark or semisweet Chocolate (optional) (around 15 gr.)
  • Optional milk froth or whipped cream as topping

Instructions

  • (Optional, only if using baked or steamed pumpkin instead of purée):
    Blend the peeled and cooked pumpkin with a cup of milk.

  • Put all the ingredients in a small saucepan.
    Heat on medium heat or medium-low while stirring or whisking until the chocolate has melted (avoid boiling).

  • Serve as is or topped with some milk froth or whipped cream.

Notes

  • You may also add an espresso shot for a chocolate flavored pumpkin spice latte.
  • You can also make this hot chocolate with homemade pumpkin syrup: you may then skip the pumpkin purée, spices and sweetener.
    I use between 2-4 Tbsp. of this syrup per serving.
