Equipment

  • Water boiler
  • Blender or hand mixer

Ingredients

  • 4 bags black tea
  • 1 and half cups boiling water (around 350 ml.)
  • 12 dates
  • 1 avocado
  • 4 cups milk or alternative (like unsweetened almond drink)

Spices

  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ground cardamom
  • 1/2 teaspoon ginger powder
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/8 vanilla powder

Instructions

  • Cover the tea bags with boiling water. Let it steep for 3 minutes.

  • Remove the tea bags and throw the dates in the liquid tea. Let the tea cool with the dates in, so they become soft. It takes around 2 hours; you can also leave them overnight.

  • Add the spices.

  • Add the avocado, milk and blend.

  • Serve cold or warm. This chai spiced avocado smoothie can be stored for up to 2 days in the fridge.

Notes

  • If you use a chai tea bag instead of regular tea, skip the spices.
  • When using an already made spices mix like this homemade chai spices mix, use 2-3 teaspoons for this quantity (about 1/2 to 2/3 teaspoon per serving).
  • Here is an easy way to cut and peel avocados.
  • You can swap the avocado for nut butter.
  • For a caffeine-free version, switch to rooibos tea.
