The inspiration for this juice came when making gazpacho with watermelon.
Where I live, tomatoes are not so great, so every summer when visiting my parents in South Spain, I go CRAZY having gazpacho.
This year I discovered for myself how great watermelon blends into this savory refreshment, so an idea popped up: “what if I just blend watermelon?”.
It only took us a sip to fall in love with this awesome beverage.
I hope you enjoy this watermelon drink too!

Well, it turns out that making your own 100% natural watermelon drink is surprisingly easy.
And it tastes like dessert, without needing ANY sweetener.
So, although I still love eating watermelon, here are some reasons to make some homemade watermelon juice today:
- Have you ever bought a watermelon that wasn’t so sweet? Making it into juice always makes the taste sweeter
- Watermelon is very easy to puree, even with an old blender or per hand
- This drink is very revitalizing when you’re not feeling hungry because of the heat
- Too much watermelon at home? No one likes eating spoiled fruit! Making juice out of watermelon helps you finish it before it goes bad
- Watermelon is a low calorie fruit that offers many benefits

Watermelon juice or watermelon smoothie?
Before going further, let me make a confession: while we call this drink “watermelon juice”, it’s actually a smoothie.
Juicing extracts the water and flavor from the fruits and vegetables but discards any indigestible fiber found naturally in these foods.
Smoothies are blended so they contain both soluble and insoluble fibers.
That makes them gut friendlier.
The blending process also keeps your stomach fuller for longer because it takes more time to digest as opposed to juicing, which removes most of what provides satiety.
In this recipe, the watermelon doesn’t go though the process of juicing, but it’s blended instead.
So, you get the advantages of both things: this blended drink still contains the good fibers of the fruit while tasting like fruit juice. Watermelon magic!
Is natural watermelon juice sweet enough?
Oh yes! This refreshing summer drink is one of the sweetest drinks you can make without the need of any sweetener.
Of course, it helps if you use ripe watermelon, but this healthy drink is always deliciously sweet.
You may also add a pinch of salt to bring out the natural sweetness of this refreshing drink or splash some fresh lime or lemon juice for an extra zing.
How to make fresh watermelon juice
The secret to make this refreshing watermelon juice quickly and easily lies in using seedless watermelon.
We don’t want to strain this watermelon smoothie because it would not only remove the fiber, but also make the recipe much more laborious.
And I’m all for easy recipes!
But if you only have watermelons with seeds in stock, don’t worry; you can still prepare this fresh drink filtering out the seeds afterward, like pouring the juice though a mesh strainer.
The equipment couldn’t be easier also: you don’t need a juicer for this juice drink.
Since fresh watermelon cubes are very tender, the flesh becomes puréed quickly enough so you can use any blender in the kitchen.
Time needed: 10 minutes
